IISS – Virtualising the IT operating environment

Founded in the UK in 1958, the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a world leading authority on global security, political risk and military conflict. It is a registered charity headquartered in London, with offices in Washington DC, Singapore and Bahrain – and is perceived as being one of the Top 10 Think Tanks in the world.

Project overview

In 2008, ISS decided to virtualise its in-house IT operating infrastructure to provide a high-availability environment with full Disaster Recovery capabilities. Part of that project involved identifying a colocation Data Centre provider that would best suit the charity’s current and future needs. With responsibility for running high profile conferences around the world, the need for a robust and reliable communications infrastructure was paramount.

IISS chose City Lifeline as the charity’s London Data Centre provider, taking a private suite with three racks initially, which has now increased to five. The initial project was completed without a hitch in 2009, and the ongoing relationship is extremely good, providing everything that ISS needs from a Data Centre partner.

We chose City Lifeline because they ticked all the right boxes for a private suite for us. They were independent, had excellent global connectivity and were good on uptime processes. Their pricing was good and they were in the perfect central London location. A great decision and we couldn’t be happier.
